OUTGAMES IS COMING
The City of Darwin is hosting the 3rd Asia Pacific Outgames from the 10th to the 16th of May 2014. Darwin Roller Girls (DRG) is proud and excited to be hosting one of the 19 official sports for the event - Roller Derby. This is the first time ever that Roller Derby has been included as an official sport in an international sporting event that we are aware of.
The Outgames is a triennial gathering of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender & Intersex (LGBTI) athletes throughout the Asia Pacific region to participate in sports, cultural programs and a human rights conference. In the spirit of true inclusiveness, the OutGames are open to all, regardless of sexual orientation. DRG propose to hold both a Roller Derby Team Tournament, as well as Challenge Bout Tournaments, following WFTDA rules. Depending on interest and capacity, the challenge bouts will include women only bouts, co-ed and merby.
The Darwin Roller Girls are looking for fresh meat (new recruits) to join Darwin’s first Roller Derby team. Roller Derby is the fastest growing sport in the world. It is predominately a women-only team sport and is not only a vigorous contact sport, but extremely competitive and team orientated.
Come Play as a reff! Team Zebra are a pack of their own and this is the ideal place for men to join up and be a part of the Derby action. Refs are respected and essential members of the league, hold the female players in high regard and enforce fair play and control over the bouts. Women most certainly can referee as well.
Don’t want to play rough? That’s ok; you can still join us as a non-skating official. This is a great option for those who would love to have a little skate at training but don’t want to play rough or participate in bouts. Its also the place for those who have no intention of standing up on those bloody things but really want to be a part of the action.
Men are strongly encouraged to join as referees or non-skating officials
